China launches the world's largest human genome project

On December 28th, China launched the “100,000 People's Genome Project in China”, which is the first major national plan implemented by China in the field of human genome research and the largest human genome project in the world.

Scientists hope to study the relationship between disease health and genetic inheritance by mapping the Chinese fine genome map.

The "100,000 People's Genome Project of China" launched in this area covers major areas of China. In addition to the Han nationality, the ethnic groups including the Zhuang and Hui nationalities with a population of over 5 million will be selected.

Genes are fragments of genetic effects on DNA. Human beings are born, old, sick, and dead. The genome and genes are the whole and part of the relationship. There are about 25,000 human genes. The purpose of genome research is to unravel the 25,000 genes in the human body, thus deciphering human genetic information. The genome project is to map the genes of our nation.

Professor Wang Yadong, the chief scientist of the project: The main goal is to study how Chinese people transform from health to disease, and provide reference for medical research or clinical diagnosis and treatment of diseases in China.

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhao Guoping, director of the National Research Center for Human Genomes: After this is done, it will actually be an understanding of the genetic background of Chinese people’s disease health for the Chinese, including the Han and various ethnic minorities. There are great benefits.

According to the plan, the entire project will complete all sequencing and analysis tasks within four years, which will be the fastest-growing genome project in the world. (CCTV)
