Five common misunderstandings in rabbit breeding

1, partial feed concentrates. Most rural rabbit farmers believe that only rabbits fed with concentrated feed can grow faster. Some people even feed concentrate feed 3 times a day without other roughage and green feed. As a result, rabbits die from diarrhea. Excess concentrate feed is decomposed and fermented in the intestine of rabbits, producing a large amount of organic acids, destroying the normal weak alkaline environment of the microorganisms, and causing an imbalance in the microbial balance of the intestinal flora of rabbits. Therefore, when feeding rabbits, a certain proportion of concentrate feed should be added according to the rabbit's nutritional standards, but the cellulose-based roughage must not be lacking.

2. Use whole grain instead of pellet feed. When cereal feeds are fed on a whole grain basis, a significant portion of the grain enters the gastrointestinal tract without being fully chewed by the rabbit's mouth, making it unable to be digested completely and entering the cecum. Undigested grains are fermented in the cecum of rabbits. Enterotoxins are produced by harmful bacteria, leading to diarrhoea or enteritis in rabbits.

3, improper use or indiscriminate use of drugs. At present, there are many rabbit farmers in rural areas who do not understand the drug's performance and use medicine completely based on their feelings and experience. For example, in the treatment of rabbit rickets, some rabbit owners always wash the affected area first with soapy water, and then scrub with an aqueous solution of trichlorfon, which is harmful to rabbits. The reason is: the soapy water is alkaline, and after encountering with the aqueous solution of dipterex it will generate more toxic dichlorvos, which will easily cause poisoning in rabbits. The correct method is: wash the affected area with soapy water and rinse with soapy water. After the affected area is air-dried, apply an aqueous solution of trichlorfon.

4, indiscriminate use of antibiotics. In order to prevent rabbits from becoming ill, some farmers often add antibiotics such as oxytetracycline, chlordiazem, and gentamicin to their diets. This practice is harmful to rabbits. Rabbits are herbivores and feed forages decompose and absorb cellulose through the action of various microorganisms in the intestine. When the rabbits are fed with antibiotics, a large number of beneficial microbial flora in their intestines will be destroyed, resulting in a decrease in the digestive ability and disease resistance of rabbits.

5, vaccine frozen. Cryopreservation can easily cause the vaccine to fail. The correct method of vaccine preservation is that the vaccine requisites can be stored in shades at a temperature of 4°C to 8°C without opening the package.
