The Interim Provisions on the Establishment of Drug Retail Enterprises in Beijing has been considered and passed. According to regulations, the area of ​​use of "non-pharmaceutical areas" for drug retailers must not exceed 30%. At the same time, the area of ​​use of pharmacies' business premises must not be less than 100 square meters; the pharmacy establishments in rural areas below the township level must not be less than 60 square meters. If the business scope contains Chinese Herbal Medicine Pieces, a separate independent Chinese Herbal Pieces business area shall be set up, and shall not be less than 30 square meters. In addition, the distance between the new pharmacy and the existing pharmacy must be at least 350 meters, but chain pharmacies can be unlimited.

According to Li Jiangning, director of the Market Supervision Department of the Municipal Food and Drug Administration, the “non-pharmaceutical area” mainly refers to non-medical products such as health products, foods, drinks, and cosmetics sold in pharmacies. At present, there are 5278 retail pharmacies in Beijing and about 300 drug wholesalers. In existing pharmacies, the total ratio of drugs to non-drugs is approximately 7:3.
