Release date: 2017-03-10 Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Japanese scientists hope to get your help on the road to treating cancer. They don't want to get your donations, and they want to be able to contribute some of the performance in their phones. The Smash Childhood Cancer project uses a mobile phone and computer equipment from a wide range of users to run a drug simulation, which can take thousands of years to share a computer. Akira Nakagawara from the Saga Medical Center and his team worked with IBM in 2004 to develop such a system called "World Community Grid." In Asahi Shimbun's last week report, it took only 2 days to complete a 55,000-year computing task with a normal computer. In a potential way to treat neuroblastoma, Nakagawara and his team have used World Community Grid to overcome other types of childhood cancer. More than 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, killing 80,000 people each year.
