Artificial Intelligence Topic 3

In recent years, Russia has continuously strengthened its research on artificial intelligence, focusing on artificial intelligence applications, and has achieved initial results.

Artificial intelligence + supercomputer

Assisting basic scientific research

In March, Dubna Science City on the outskirts of Moscow put into use a new supercomputer "Govolen", which ranks third in the computing power of Russia and enters the world's supercomputer ranking list TOP500. The supercomputer is mainly used in nuclear physics and condensed matter physics research. It uses a heterogeneous computing system consisting of two parts, one using Intel processors and the other using NVIDIA's latest Volta architecture graphics processor. Among them, the graphics processor part is mainly responsible for artificial intelligence and machine learning, becoming the main features and advantages of this supercomputer.

Dorenko, director of the Data Application Processing Laboratory of the Institute of Nuclear Physics at the Moscow State University, pointed out: "Since the research objects of physics experiments are becoming more and more complex, the traditional models are no longer applicable. We are trying to use machine learning to process the experimental results. The calculations performed on the graphics processor are particularly important. For example, in spectroscopy and space physics research, scientists often need to make indirect measurements at the molecular level. With the machine learning ability of supercomputers, we can accurately predict The movement of charged particles."

Vilnov, a senior researcher at the High Energy Physical Analysis and Computing Laboratory at the Institute of Nuclear Physics at the Moscow State University, believes that machine learning and artificial neural networks are currently dealing with big data from particle accelerators, large hadron colliders and large astronomical telescopes. Indispensable means, from this point of view, artificial intelligence will be the development trend of future supercomputers.

Artificial Intelligence + Big Data

Enhance the competitiveness of traditional oil and gas companies

Russia is a major oil and gas exporting country. In recent years, due to the decline in international energy product prices and the decline in oil and gas well production efficiency, Russian oil and gas companies have used artificial intelligence to improve mining efficiency and reduce mining costs.

At present, Russia is actively implementing the “smart oilfield” plan, which includes: simulating geological events through data modeling, finding oil-bearing rock formations, determining the most suitable drilling location, objectively evaluating the reserves and production cycles of each well; installing on drilling equipment The sensor monitors the working status of the equipment in real time, automatically sets the next working mode, prepares the emergency response plan, optimizes the equipment maintenance cycle, controls the discharge and collection of pollutants during the mining process, and monitors the environmental conditions in the oil and gas producing area; Satellite communications transmit the collected big data back to the data center for storage and further analysis.

Cherkasov, Schneider Electric's key account manager for the oil and gas industry in Russia and the CIS region, believes that although the current "smart oilfield" plan is still in its infancy, almost all major Russian oil and gas companies have already carried out related work. There is no doubt that the future of artificial intelligence and big data will help traditional energy companies to improve their competitiveness and will profoundly change the production mode of fossil energy.

Artificial intelligence + wearable device

Provide a new method of health monitoring and diagnosis

Scientists at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology have worked with a startup in the Skolkovo Science Park to develop a biological system that uses wearable devices and artificial intelligence to predict the risk of human disease and death.

The project leader and director of the Biosystems Modeling Laboratory of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Mr. Fitzchev, said that in a few years, tens of thousands of volunteers of different ages and different medical history participated in their experiments, and volunteers submitted to scientists. I have a medical history and undergo a medical examination, and then provide a lot of physiological data such as pulse, walking number, calorie consumption, sleep, stress, etc. through the wearable device. On this basis, the researchers enabled the artificial neural network to deal with the big data of the volunteer's physical condition, combined with the patient's medical history and physical examination report for analysis. Since the experiment lasted for a long time, some volunteers died of illness, which provided a more accurate basis for artificial intelligence analysis of their causes. The final research results show that artificial intelligence can accurately determine the biological age of human beings by analyzing the movement status of the human body and various physiological indicators, and predicting the potential death risk in combination with the patient's medical history.
