Beijing's average cost of hospital admissions rose

On September 8, the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau publicized to the public the average hospital expenses and hospitalization days for 6 diseases in some hospitals in Beijing in the second quarter. In the six diseases of acute appendicitis, nodular goiter, benign ovarian tumors, uterine leiomyoma, ectopic pregnancy and cesarean section, the average hospital costs for tertiary and secondary hospitals were comparable to those of the previous quarter. As a result of the increase, the average cost of hospitalization for ectopic pregnancy in secondary hospitals was the largest, up 10.45 percent from the previous quarter.

Since the second half of 2002, the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau has regularly published to the public quarterly indicators such as average hospital fees and hospital days for some diseases in some hospitals. According to statistics, in the second quarter of this year, the average cost of hospitalization for the six diseases announced was 6160.96 yuan, and the average hospital stay was 7.2 days. Among them, the average hospitalization cost for tertiary hospitals was 6452.84 yuan, and the average hospitalization fee for secondary hospitals was 5,806.43 yuan. Compared with the previous quarter, the average hospital costs for tertiary and secondary hospitals all increased slightly. The average cost of hospitalization for the six diseases was 646.41 yuan for the secondary hospitals compared with the tertiary hospitals, but the average hospitalization day for the secondary hospitals was 1.1 days higher than the tertiary hospitals. In tertiary hospitals, the average cost of hospitalization for acute appendicitis increased most, an increase of 10.19% over the previous quarter.
