Zhejiang University has discovered more than 100 new targets for breast cancer
On May 8th, scientists have discovered more than 150 genetic mutations associated with increased risk of breast cancer through genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Most of these gene mutations are not located in the coding region of the encoded protein and are therefore thought to regulate the expression of certain genes.
One of the ways to point out the role of these mutations is to use Cis-eQTL analysis, a method for detecting changes in gene expression levels that may be regulated by mutations in neighboring genes.
By using four large data sets from normal and cancerous breast cancer tissues, researchers from institutions such as Zhejiang University School of Medicine and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine collaborated to identify 101 breast cancer susceptibility gene candidate genes, all of which occurred. A change in the level of gene expression associated with a genetic mutation. In cultured breast cancer cells, the researchers also found that three of these genes can promote tumor growth by disrupting normal cell behavior.
These findings, published recently in The American Journal of Human Genetics, reveal possible target genes associated with increased risk of breast cancer and provide new information for exploring the genetic and biological mechanisms that contribute to this common cancer.
