Fattening sheep buffers tips
Common feed buffers include sodium bicarbonate and magnesium oxide. In sheep fattening, the proportion of concentrated feed in the diet is often increased, the body's metabolism will produce too much acid, causing the digestive capacity of the gastrointestinal diet to weaken. Adding a buffer to the feed can increase the alkaline accumulation in the rumen, making the ruminal environment more suitable for the growth and reproduction of microorganisms, and can increase appetite, thereby increasing the digestibility of the feed. The ratio of sodium bicarbonate to magnesium oxide is preferably 2-3:1. The amount of sodium bicarbonate is 1.5%-2% of the mixed concentrate, or 0.75%-1% of the total dietary dry matter. Magnesium oxide is used in an amount of 0.75% to 1% of the mixture, which accounts for 0.3% to 0.5% of the total dietary dry matter. Tests have shown that the combined use of the two is better.
