Scientists at Johns Hopkins University have found that two-thirds of adult cancer patients mutate in the cell division of the body, which is why cancer occurs. The remaining nine cancerization rates are significantly higher, possibly due to environmental impacts and genetic factors.

"We found that these nine high-probability cell tissues are well-known cancer-prone sites, such as lung cancer (related to smoking), skin cancer (related to ultraviolet light), and cancer associated with genetic chromosomes."
