Nokia officially enters the digital medical industry to buy Withings for $191 million

Nokia announced plans to acquire French company digital health company Withings for 191 million. It is reported that the transaction will be completed early in the third quarter of this year. The acquisition marks Nokia's formal entry into the digital health arena to complement its global reach.

Withings has a range of digital health products including smart bracelets, sleep trackers, thermometers and smart watches.

Rajeev Suri, President and CEO of Nokia, said: "We have always insisted that the digital medical field has a strategic significance for Nokia. Now we take substantive actions to enter this vast and important market. Through this acquisition, Nokia wants Strengthen its position in the global Internet of Things field and use branded products to achieve the goal of connecting the world and exploiting human possibilities."

According to analysts' forecasts, from 2015 to 2020, mobile healthcare will grow at a CAGR of 37%, making it the fastest growing healthcare segment.

Founded in 2008 by Withhairman Eric Carreel and Cedric Hutchings, Withings is headquartered in France with offices in Cambridge, the United States and Hong Kong, with approximately 200 employees. Withings has a range of health products based on a sophisticated digital healthcare platform that helps users make smarter decisions about health management.

It is worth noting that this is Nokia's first acquisition of technology products focused on consumers in recent years. The last acquisition of the US telecommunications software equipment service company Alcatel-Lucent is to enhance the advantages of communication network equipment and wireless technology.
