Protein solution viscosity for treating diseases
Protein therapy usually requires a few milligrams of injected dose. A typical implementation therapy is subcutaneous injection. Because of the small amount used for subcutaneous injection (usually 1.0 mL to 1.2 mL), this method requires a high concentration of protein formulation (eg 50 mg/ml to 300 mg/ml).
This highly concentrated protein formulation constitutes the physical and chemical stability of the protein, the difficulty of manufacture, the storage and delivery of protein formulations.
One problem is that the tendency of proteins is to form microparticles in processing and/or storage. To overcome this problem, surfactants and/or sugars may be added. While these additives can reduce the extent of particle formation, they do not address the other problems associated with high-concentration protein formulations - the increase in viscosity.
There is now a need to develop stable, highly concentrated protein formulations that have lower viscosity and are more suitable for manufacturing, storage and management.
The Lovis 2000ME Trace Viscometer can be combined with a DMA M densitometer for fully automated measurement of dynamic viscosity and density.
The Lovis 2000M/ME requires very little sample volume to provide accurate viscosity values ​​very quickly. It is especially suitable for this challenging development and quality control of protein formulations.
