Ali, Tencent, Jinshan, the three giants to rush to the medical cloud

Release date: 2015-07-08

Wang Yunlin, president of Jinshan Cloud, commented: "This is not an industry that can expand rapidly at any cost." Interestingly, the Internet giants are the most popular killers when they are developing the medical cloud, a market that is considered to have huge demand. "burning money" seems to have failed.

Due to the large size of the medical market, Internet companies are hard to ignore, and the market has long begun to look forward to the medical cloud vision. However, in this industry that is mixed with people's livelihood and public welfare, the process of commercialization cannot be as fruitful as expected. The difficult problem of realizing the reality is always plaguing the pioneers of the market, which makes the advancement of the medical cloud almost become a collective battle of the industry. Today's medical cloud does not lack the collective obscenity of the market. What is lacking is the unique solution that can be landed and a real take-off.

Pain points and opportunities for giants in the top three hospitals

Recently, Jinshan Cloud announced a strategic cooperation with Peking University Medical Letter (Peking Medical Information Technology Co., Ltd.), and officially released Jinshan Cloud Computing + Medical Project Product - "Jinshan Medical Cloud". Jinshan Medical Cloud is a hybrid cloud solution launched by Jinshan Cloud and Peking University's "public cloud + private cloud" model. It has first landed at Peking University People's Hospital. It is understood that the hospital is also the first in the country to synchronize its core resources of the CDR data center to the top three hospitals in the medical cloud.

Prior to this, there was no precedent for such cooperation between national key hospitals and cloud computing enterprises, and most of the businesses that enterprises do are marginal projects such as registration, which is difficult to truly touch the core of medical cloud. Wang Yulin believes that Peking University People's Hospital will transfer the system to Jinshan cloud computing, which will have a model impact on the national medical industry. "The combination of the hospital and the cloud industry is ready for everything. In the next two years, the growth rate of medical clouds in China should exceed the imagination of everyone."

According to him, today's hospitals face three major problems in the informationization problem: First, with the expansion of internal IT resources, the original structure of the hospital is difficult to support, and the cost is also high, unable to build the internal computer room. Second, with the increase of equipment and data, the computing power of the hospital is not enough to maintain medical and scientific research work; and the third and biggest problem is that there are multiple systems of supplier services inside a hospital. Information and data are basically unable to communicate smoothly. And placing the hospital's system on the cloud platform, the hospital will be freed from the underlying IT work, operating costs are reduced, and between the hospital and even between hospitals, hospitals and public health systems, hospitals and front-end personal health products. The data will also have the possibility of getting through.

In fact, compared to the cloud computing + mobile gaming field that has been done well and market-oriented, the medical cloud appears relatively remote. In this regard, Wang Yulin said that Jinshanyun’s reason for entering the medical cloud is to value the future of the industry. The poor foundation of public health and personal health care in China means that this is a huge market. More importantly, Medical Cloud can form a deep integration with Jinshan's original industry. At present, a cloud data platform is built between Jinshan Yun and Xiaomi. He believes that when Xiaomi's wristband, blood pressure meter, blood glucose meter, including the scanner made by the partner, will have a huge synergy after the monitoring (data) is opened.

Jinshan is not the only company that has this action. Earlier this year, Alibaba Cloud and Xi'an International Medicine and Donghua Software reached a strategic cooperation to jointly launch the wisdom "cloud hospital" - Xi'an International Medical Center. It is understood that the agency is a physical medical institution that uses data-driven precision medicine and health management.

However, the industry generally believes that, comprehensively, the industrial layout of Jinshan Medical Cloud is more focused on the front-end system products, focusing on the docking with the hospital. Ali and Tencent are more focused on the rear end of the entire medical, drug and patient medical industry chain, spreading to the big health field and connecting with end users and medical institutions. For example, Ali currently owns the Tmall Medical Museum, which operates pharmaceutical e-commerce, and Tencent has invested in the clove garden and registered network through strategic investment. In addition, Ali and Tencent have also developed online registration for patient services based on the traffic portal Alipay Wallet and WeChat.

“Other companies are doing more of a healthy cloud and a health cloud. We are the only ones who are doing the medical cloud itself and moving the core technology of the hospital to the cloud,” said Wang Yulin.

To a certain extent, the differences in the entry of the industry chain are caused by different enterprise genes. Jinshan has been focusing on B-side (enterprise) services, while Ali and Tencent have accumulated high user awareness and advantages in C-side (individual). From another point of view, due to policy restrictions and hospital concerns, the docking with the hospital's system is the most important part of the entire medical cloud industry chain, but the pace of advancement is very slow. Relatively speaking, the difficulty of getting through the C side is even smaller.

Industry that can't burn money

"This is not an industry that can expand rapidly at any cost." Wang Yulin does not believe that the strategy of rapid encirclement of Internet companies can be applied to the cloud computing + medical industry. "On the one hand, (doing this) has no value. On the other hand, medical health is a very important field, we are doing this industry with awe." According to his setting, Jinshan Yun’s current stage of the goal Locked in to improve the computing power, storage capacity, data mining capabilities, and security, availability and platform of medical cloud products, first attack the service, temporarily not considering market share.

The immediate cause of this situation is the hospital's concerns. In addition, due to the difficulty in initial development of the market, the medical cloud industry is far from the stage of market share.

“The medical industry is related to people's health and life. Many things cannot be used for economic purposes. Although hospitals will consider reducing costs and improving medical efficiency through big data, all the benefits must be based on a foolproof situation. Hospitals and The patient's attitudes are conservative, and they must be promoted with the safest approach, rather than trying the latest technology. They have concerns about patient privacy issues, medical safety and data security issues. This industry is slow to advance."

However, Wang Yulin also told reporters that according to his observation, the attitude of the hospital has undergone a relatively obvious change this year. The background of this change, on the one hand, is the continuous development of medical technology, the internal informationization level of medical care is unbearable to the overall development bottleneck caused by the load, and on the other hand, with the improvement of cloud technology capabilities, cloud computing is safe and high. The availability and confidentiality of the data have reached the requirements of the hospital.

Hospitals are becoming more and more open, but there are still a few who dare to "eat crabs" first. Cloud computing companies that have entered the Internet industry are facing difficulties in market development. The common strategy they adopt is to find system service providers as partners and use them as a bridge to graft out cooperation with hospitals. Technically, the cloud computing company's products are mainly low-level systems, hospitals can not be used directly, and companies with platforms must be involved.

Taking Jinshan Medical Cloud as an example, Peking University People's Hospital has always been a customer of Peking University Medical Letter, and Jinshan Cloud has built a cooperative relationship with the North Medical Letter as a link. Wang Yulin told the reporter of China Business News that the Peking University Hospital System also has a number of hospitals such as the North Hospital Third Hospital and the Peking University People's Hospital International Hospital. The next step is to continue the whole system through Peking University Medical Letter. And across the country, Peking University Medical Letter has more than 500 customers, and it will also be the target group for Jinshan to conduct business thereafter.

The cooperation between Alibaba Cloud and Donghua Software is similar to the alliance between Jinshan Yun and Peking University Medical Letters. In addition, at the cloud + plan conference of Tencent Cloud, Qiu Yuepeng, the vice president of Tencent and the head of Tencent Cloud, told reporters that Tencent Cloud is in the medical field and will surely land by means of cooperation with partners. At present, the information released by the three giants is said to hope to create an open medical cloud platform. Extensive inclusion of developer resources can help to make the cake bigger.

Analyst Lin Wenbin of Analysys thinks that the core competitiveness of the cloud computing giant in the medical field will eventually evolve into a platform partner for these direct docking hospital ports. “Because the technical threshold will not be particularly high in the future, it will face homogenization competition and will eventually fight for resources.”

The ultimate vision in the industry is that systems between hospitals can achieve the interconnection of information and data. "This is definitely the general direction of the future, but the process will be a long time. Because of the legacy problems in the process of hospital information development, the system between hospitals is different from that of enterprises, and the system between the two hospitals can be completely In addition, because of the risks, it depends on whether state supervision allows interconnection between hospitals," Lin Wenbin said.

Where is the profitability of cloud computing + medical future?

Undoubtedly, the market demand for cloud computing + medical field is huge, and the "window" theory about this industry has been around for a long time. However, when it comes to the people's livelihood, how to combine the purpose of public welfare with the purpose of business, and to tap the profit space on this basis is a key issue for enterprises. In the past, many industries that have been involved in public welfare have repeatedly verified the truth: an idealistic concept and a market of collective obscenity can not make a good business, and a unique business and profit model is the correct solution to survival.

"In fact, everyone is in the cloud computing + medical big cake, but it is not good, the fundamental reason is that it is difficult to realize." An industry source said.

The reporter learned that the current profit model of Jinshan Medical Cloud is to collect the corresponding service fees according to the use of resources through the output of technical capabilities. "We are doing the service, it is good to charge the service fee, there is no other complicated thing." Wang Yulin said.

However, if the profit margin of cloud computing only ends here, it will not attract the Internet giants to flock to it. A common phenomenon is that when companies are involved in the public welfare and other fields of public welfare, they will talk about profitability. Some taboos. On the one hand, the macro-environment and government level may be difficult to accept for corporate behavior that completely deviates from the public interest. On the other hand, in the field of people's livelihood with a special institutional structure, purely profitable thinking is not grounded, and there are even hidden dangers in business logic and law.

So, where is the profitability of cloud computing + medical future?

Lin Wenbin believes that the public medical cloud and the unopened part of the country are not for profit, and more are the direction of infrastructure construction. However, the opening of private capital, and even the future expansion from medical care to health, will be the direction for cloud computing giants to seek profit and value. “But it’s not that you have to rely on the cloud to make a profit, but to rely on other cloud-related services that are based on the infrastructure underlying infrastructure to make a profit. The current cloud is only the basic service.”
